DIY & Other Homemade Products

Hey there my lovelies! I just recently made a blog post all about how to go zero-waste. One of my biggest tips I have is to find out what products you can make at home. So today I am talking all about beauty and home products, you can make yourself at home and make on a budget. Most of these use the same or similar products, I suggest buying these products in bulk if you are planning on starting to make your own products. Let’s get started!

Body Scrub

DIY Frank Coffee Scrub- thanks to this recipe, my skin has never looked brighter and tighter! Pin now, get gorgeous "perked up" skin later!

My favorite body scrub to make is a “Coffee exfoliating scrub”. Coffee is an awesome product to use when wanting to make any type of body product. Coffee helps stimulate blood flow, causing you to feel more awake and alert. It helps tremendously on cellulite or patchy skin, it causes those blood vessels to wake up and distribute blood evenly. Since I stopped drinking coffee, I had a ton of leftover coffee grounds that I didn’t want to toss, so I used it to make different body scrubs.

What you’ll

  • 1/2 cup Coffee grounds
  • 3 tbs olive oil or coconut oil
  • 3 tbs white sugar
  • 5 drops essential oil of your choice

This is a super simple recipe simply mix it up and store in a container you have on hand. You don’t need to refrigerate this, simply leave in your shower or bathroom and use as needed.

Cellulite Remover

I am a healthy eater, and always try to limit the amount of fats in my diet. Nonetheless I still get patches of cellulite under my bum and on my thighs. This super simple recipe you can put on daily and see results within four week. This product again uses coffee grounds, coffee is going to help get your blood vessels work properly and help remove the cellulite in the area’s you target.

What you’ll need

  • 1 cup Coffee
  • 1 cup Sugar
  • Olive oil until its smooth in consistency
  • 2 tsp Cinnamon

Simply mix all the ingredients together, store and use. You can also apply this before bed, then wrap your legs or cellulite areas in plastic wrap and let it sit on your skin over night for faster results.

Cleaning Solution

I love making my cleaning products at home for many reasons. One of the main one’s tho, is normal house cleaners you buy at the store are full of harmful chemicals that you should not be breathing in. The amount of chemicals used in a cleaning product is out of control. Making the products at home will get the job done and be safer for you’ll health. I make a “Orange citrus house cleaner”.

What you’ll need

  • Orange peels
  • 6 cups water
  • 2 cups Regular white vinegar
  • 1/4 cup baking soda
  • 7-8 drops essential oil to cut the vinegar smell

Mix the vinegar, baking soda, and essential oils together. Add the orange peels last, then let sit over night or for 8 to 10 hours. Once you’ve let it sit, strain solution into a spray bottle or other container and start cleaning.

Cleaning & Disinfecting Wipes

These are some of my favorite products to make at home. You can buy the tubs of cleaning wipes from the store, but again the chemicals in them are not good. These are easy to make at home and if you substitute paper towels for wash cloths then you can wash and reuse them.

What you’ll need

  • 1 cup white vinegar
  • 1 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 1/2 cup baking soda
  • 5 cups warm water
  • lavender or lemon essential oil
  • paper towels or reusable cloths

If you are using paper towels, cut off a square fold it in half and place in the jar. Do this until your jar is filled with paper towels. If you are using wash cloths, roll up and place in the jar till the jar is filled. Add water, the vinegar’s, baking soda and essential oil. Let sit over night to all the towels to soak up the liquids.

Produce Wash

One of the main rules when eating produce, whether fruits or vegetables, is to always wash the produce before eating it. They use so many harmful pesticides that they spray on produce, to get rid of weeds, and allow the produce to grow. If you don’t wash it, you could potentially be consuming pesticides and other harmful chemicals. This produce wash will help get rid of the chemicals on the fruits or veggies.

What you’ll need

  • 1 cup of white vinegar
  • 1/2 cup lemon juice
  • 4 cups water

Mix together in a spray bottle, and spray on fruit before you eat.

Almond Milk

Homemade vanilla almond milk, sweetened with dates.

Homemade almond milk is one of  my favorite things to make. You can substitute almond milk for whole milk or soy milk. I use it for coffee creamer, cereal, in smoothies, and more. Everyone always thinks making almond or cashew milk is very difficult but its actually super simple.

What you’ll need

  • 1/2 raw almonds
  • 1 1/2 cups water
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 tbs raw honey or agave

The first thing to do is soak the raw almonds in water for 6 to 8 hours then drain. After that stick the almonds, and other ingredients in a high speed blender, and blend until smooth and creamy. Stick in a air tight jar and refrigerate.

Lip scrub

Homemade lip scrubs are easy to make and are good for removing dry skin from your lips. I use my homemade lip scrub every night before bed. I apply chap-stick or lip Vaseline right after to lock in moister.

What you’ll need

  • 1 tbs brown sugar
  • 1 tbs white sugar
  • 1 tbs coconut oil
  • 3 drops of peppermint essential oil

When mixing this all together, it should not be runny. It should be a little more dry, this is whats gonna remove the dead skin.

Cucumber make-up removing wipes

This is a simple recipe for days when you don’t feel like washing your face to remove your make-up. Most of the time when I forget to remove my make-up I keep these near my bed and before falling asleep I use the pads and wipe away product and dirt. Once all my make-up is removed I blend the extra oils into my skin and head to sleep.

What you’ll need

  • 1 cup distilled water
  • 4 tbs coconut oil
  • 2 tbs castor oil
  • 1 cucumber
  • 1 bag of cotton rounds

First thing to do is cut the cucumber into slices, then soak the cucumbers in the distilled water for 6 to 8 hr. Once you notice the water turning a greenish color, remove the cucumber slices, mix the other ingredients, and add cotton rounds. Seal with a lid and anytime you want to remove make-up, pull out a cotton round and apply to your face.

  1. I like experimenting with food and I try to stay away from dairy. I got into almond milk, I discovered that making my own was so much cheaper and full of less stuff. It took to long to make the almond milk if I wanted to try stuff. If you use 1 cup of almonds put them in a pressure cooker for a minute. After the slow release is done put them in the blender with 4 cups of water and blend. Use a nut milk bag to strain the pulp out of the liquid, you can save the pulp for things like ice cream.
