Finding your perfect foundation

Hey there my lovelies! Today we are talking all about how to find your perfect foundation. There are tons of different companies out there selling foundations, and it can be hard to weed out the ones that work for you and the ones that don’t. In this post i’m gonna go through some different categories to hopefully help you find your perfect foundation

I apologize in advanced if I spelled any of the companies or foundation’s wrong!

For Fair Skin

One of the main issues you’ll run into when picking a foundation is finding your perfect shade range. If you have pale skin, or extremely fair skin it can’t be hard to find foundations that have shades light enough for you. The first option is from the drugstore and will cost just under ten dollars. This product is “Fit Me’ by Maybelline, not only is their shade range perfect for those with fair skin, but it is also a medium/full coverage. When it comes to more expensive foundations, I would go with the Kat Von D “Lock-it Tattoo” foundation. Now this foundation is very, very full coverage, because it was originally used to cover tattoos. Their shade range is amazing tho, especially when it comes to fair and medium skin tones. Some of my other favorite fair skin foundations are:

  • Rimel Match Perfection Foundation
  • Tarte Shape Tape Foundation
  • Too Faced Born This Way Foundation
  • Wet & Wild Coverall Foundation
  • Hard Candy Glamafouge
  • Fenty Beauty Foundation

For Dark Skin

One of the main things that frustrate me is seeing a brand come out with a new line of foundation with a ton of light to tan shades and only three or four dark shades. It is harder to make foundation for darker tones, it cost more money to formulate, and can be complicated to make. However if you are a company creating a foundation line it needs to be inclusive, something everyone can buy. As a company it is your job to make sure you are being fair and equal to everyone purchasing your product. There are lines of foundation with plenty of shades for darker skin tones. One of my favorites is the Lore’l “True Match” foundation. Not only is it super affordable and excess-able to everyone, but the shade range is awesome. With 45 shades in the line there is a shade for everyone. A more expensive foundation but one that’s worth the money is the Becca “Matte Skin Shone Proof” foundation. This is another foundation that has a good range of shades, and has shades for everyone.  Some other foundations for darker skin tones are:

  • Bobbi Brown Skin Foundation
  • Two Faced Born This Way Foundation
  • Fit Me Mate and Pore-less Foundation
  • Cover FX Foundation
  • Clinque Foundations

Full Coverage Foundation’s

Kat Von D - Lock-it Foundation (Review)

There are just those days when you feel like you want a foundation that does more than just even out your skin tone. Sometimes we need a foundation that is full coverage enough to cover all our blemish’s and dark spots. Now I think it’s really important to be happy in the skin that you’re in and learn how to be comfortable not wearing any make-up especially out in public. However like I said earlier sometimes you just have those days where you either want to do a full face of make-up, have an event to go to, or just want a more full coverage foundation. My favorite drugstore foundation that is super full coverage is Lore’l “Paris Infallible Pro-matte 24 hour” foundation. You can find this at any drugstore, Walmart or Target for right around ten dollars. This is a perfect foundation if you are looking for a full coverage foundation. This is going to not only cover your blemish’s and spots but it is going to even everything out. My favorite high end foundation that is full coverage is the Kat Von D “Lock-it” foundation. Like I said earlier this foundation is no joke, it’s original use was for covering up tattoos. Later it was sold as a foundation and concealer, and it is very high coverage. If you suffer with acne or bad dark spots this foundation would be perfect for you. Some other full coverage foundations include:

  • Bare Minerals BarePro Foundation
  • Milk Make-up Blur Liquid Matte Foundation
  • Urban Decay All Nighter Foundation
  • Make-up Forever Ultra HD Foundation
  • Maybelline Superstay Foundation
  • Milani Perfect 2 + 1 Foundation

BB Creams, CC Creams and other non full coverage foundations

Maybelline Dream Fresh BB Cream #DiySugarScrub

Most of the time I only wear concealer on a daily basis, but occasionally if I want to even out my skin tone I will wear a BB Cream. Now a BB Cream was first generated in Japan and wore among the women there. It is basically a mixture of foundation and lotion. The coverage is very minimal and isn’t used for high coverage uses. The thing I love about BB Creams is it keeps your skin moisturized while also keeping your skin looking glowy & dewy. My favorite BB Cream is from the drugstore and it’s the “Dream Pore” BB Cream by Maybelline. This is an awesome cream for many reasons, but the main one is that it has salicylic acid to help fight breakouts. This product has never broken me out or irritated my skin in anyway. Another awesome BB Cream is the Neutrogena “Healthy Skin Anti-aging Perfecter”. This is another one that helps fight breakouts and will even out your skin tone. When it comes to BB and CC Creams I recommend sticking to drugstore brands and not spilling out a ton of money until you try one and figure out if you like it or not. You don’t want to spend forty plus dollars on a product that’s basically a lotion or moisturizer. Some of my other favorites include:

  • NYX Professional BB Cream
  • Covergirl Clean Matte BB Cream
  • Truly Yours BB Cream
  • NO7 Tinted Moisturizer
  • Lore’l Paris BB Cream

Deciding which foundation is perfect for you

It can be struggle to find your perfect foundation, and one that works for your skin. The first thing to do is figure out what skin type you have. For example if you have oily skin, or get oily throughout the day, you don’t want to get a foundation that is to moisturizing otherwise that oil will get excessive. The same thing goes for dry skin, if you have super dry skin you don’t want a foundation that sucks all the moister out of your face or you will get flaky. Figure out what skin type you have and that’ll help when deciding which foundation will work for you. The second thing is to go to places like Sephora or Ulta and get sample sizes of different foundations to try out. Now be careful with this if you are prone to acne, or breakouts, cause trying a different foundation everyday can reek havoc on your face. If you are not prone to breakouts, it’s a good idea to try sample sizes and figure out whether, the foundation looks and feels the way you want it to. The third thing is to stick to drugstore brands in the beginning. Don’t go out and spend a ton of money on a foundation especially if you don’t know whether it’ll work for you or not. Stick to foundations that are around ten dollars, and try out ones you think you’ll like. You might like a full coverage foundation, but will try a BB Cream and find out it’s your perfect match.
